Fashion Show Hosted by Fossil Ridge High School, HKIN
This past Friday, Fossil Ridge High School hosted its first charity Fashion Show for Help Kids in Nepal, an organization involved with kids suffering from cancer in Nepal. Planning for the HKIN Fashion Show started in October 2012, when the idea was presented to the school’s National Honor Society. By mid-January, almost 80 models were chosen to walk on the runway and dozens of other hair stylists, makeup artists, and backstage crew were selected for the day of the event. January 30 saw the start of model rehearsals. Rehearsals were held twice weekly to help the models on their walk and disperse information to the entire team.
The show was held on March 8 at 2:45 in Fossil Ridge High School’s gymnasium. The 68-feet stage was lined with white, twinkling lights and surrounded by an expert sound system and multiple spotlights. VIP seating surrounded the stage at around 200 seats. The rest of the audience filled the bleachers. Sponsorships were provided by Belk, L’Patricia, Lancôme, Whatchamacallit, and Tuxedo Junction.
Through tickets sales and donations, the show raised almost $3000 for the charity organization. This means that multiple children living with cancer in Nepal will get another chance at treatment.
Bhabika Joshi, a Youth Ambassador of HKIN led this project. Bhabika joined HKIN in September of 2012. Over summer, she worked closely with the founders of HKIN in Association of Nepalis in Americas (ANA) 2012 Convention where she hosted two Spelling Bees, Children’s Forum, and was a part of the marketing team. In 2009, she published her first novel, for which she has received multiple accolades and recognition throughout the world. She is currently attending her final year of high school and plans to major in English. As Youth Ambassador, she has hosted a Fashion Show and plans on doing many more activities to involve the Nepali youth and community. Bhabika will remain as a Core Member with HKIN and will lead youth team. HKIN in will be looking for new youth ambassador for 2014. The youth ambassador will get support and guidance from Bhabika Joshi as well as get an opportunity to closely work with her.
HKIN is thankful to Bhabika for putting her heart and soul to this project and making it huge success, HKIN is equally thankful to the models, dancers, media, sponsors, and backstage crew, and the entire team for making the show brilliant.
